Neil Young Divorce

After 36 years of marriage, Neil Young has filed for divorce from Pegi Young. Not only his spouse, she was also a frequent musical collaborator of his.

Dissolution of Marriage

On July 29th, a petition for dissolution of marriage was filed in their hometown of San Mateo, California. A dissolution of marriage is the process by which a couple is able to permanently end their marriage. It is also just another term for “divorce.”

The Couple

The two first met when Pegi was working as a waitress in a diner near the singer’s California ranch. Pegi is known to be an inspiration for such songs as, “Such a Woman,” “Unknown Legend” and “Once an Angel.” In “Unknown Legend,” he sings, “I used to order just to watch her float across the floor,” he sang. “She grew up in a small town/Never put her roots down.” She also worked as Neil’s background singer during the ’90s, and shared the stage with him numerous times over the past 20 years. The two last performed on stage together in October 2013 at the Bridge School Benefit.

Pegi Young

Since 2007 Pegi has released three solo albums. She’s also toured extensively on her own. And occasionally Neil has joined her on guitar. Their son Ben suffers from cerebral palsy. And inspired by the lack of educational opportunities they could find for him they co-founded the Bridge School in 1986. The school educates children who have severe physical impairments. They raise funds for the school yearly with an all-star concert held in Mountain View, California.

The divorce hearing is scheduled to be held n December 12.
